The Many Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one of the most popular professional skin treatments, and with good reason: it works!  From underarms to bikini line to the entire length of both legs, laser hair removal provides long-term results that permanently reduce the appearance of hair in treated areas. And unlike earlier forms of laser hair removal, with today’s technology, it’s safe for all skin types and tones.

The good news is the laser hair removal process is really very straightforward. Using a laser, intense beams of light are applied to target areas of the skin. Pigments within the hair follicles then absorb this light, which in turn destroys the hair.

Unlike shaving, waxing, or plucking, which not only takes a long time, but can leave the skin looking red and irritated (or even discolored, particularly under the arms), laser hair removal typically has none of these annoying side-effects as the laser takes only a fraction of a second to treat multiple hairs, and does not cause any irritation or leave behind in-grown hairs.

And, you can say goodbye to costly replenishment of razor blades and shaving gels/creams. After a complete series of treatments (typically six sessions, spaced 6-8 weeks apart although that varies from person to person), hair re-growth will be dramatically reduced and in many cases, treated areas will be permanently hair-free!  And for those people who do see a minimal amount of hair re-growth, simple maintenance treatments are all that is required to keep hair-free results.

The best part about laser hair removal is that any skin type is a good candidate: oily, dry, sensitive—anyone!  So long as the correct wavelength of light is used, great results can be achieved that are safe for the skin, and that look fantastic.  If you are considering laser hair removal, avoid sun exposure and waxing/plucking areas you wish to treat for at least 4-6 weeks before your appointment. And as always, use sunscreen diligently after treatment to keep freshly lasered skin protected from UV damage.
